This year (2025), the Mekong Organics’ English for rural kids in the remote rural area of Vietnam, two Vietnamese female students will visit Mallacoota VIC, Australia for 2 months from 10 June to 10 August 2025. One is from Trung Ngai Commune of Vung Liem District, Vinh Long province of the Mekong Delta, and the other is from Mu Cang Chai District, Yen Bai province, Northwest of Vietnam. They are invited by Kate and Phil’s family and sponsored by Mallacoota, Mekong Organics in Canberra, the Rotary Club of Hall in Canberra, Wilderness Collective Social Enterprise in Mallacoota, Mallacoota P-12 College, Mallacoota Art Council, Open Page Inc., and Reclink Australia. The travel costs will be covered, including a return air ticket, travel insurance, local transportation, meals and accommodation while they stay in Mallacoota. They will participate in music and art activities, English learning, cultural exchange with locals, students, indigenous people, local businesses, social enterprises, professional groups and clubs, etc.

We also invited a teacher from the Sub-Department of Education of Mu Cang Chai District, Yen Bai province, to accompany two students for one week. She will meet the Mallacoota P12 college staff and principal to learn about the rural school’s educational system, especially the teaching of English to primary and secondary students.

The mission of Mekong Organics is to bridge the gap between Australia and Vietnam in training for organic agriculture and rural development. We wish more rural Vietnamese and Australian students could meet, exchange, share, learn, and build partnerships in education, culture, and trade.

Mu Cang Chai, a rural town of Yen Bai province in the Northeast of Vietnam; Vung Liem, a rural district of Vinh Long province in the South of Vietnam; and Mallacoota, a border rural town of Victoria, where the bridge is built for rural Australia and Vietnam through Mekong Organics’ English training program.

We also welcome two boys from Ca Mau Province, the southernmost province of Vietnam, who will be visiting Neul in Melbourne, and Pam, Alan Broughton, and Gudrun in Bairnsdale, Victoria, Australia, for four weeks in winter 2025. Kiet and Minh, two students from the Shrimp English Group, mentored by Neula, Pam and Phuong. After over a year of participating in the English class via Zoom, online, once a week, Kiet and Hau were invited by the Australian teachers to visit and experience life with local Australians in rural Victoria, at Sarfields and Bairnsdale. After four weeks of face-to-face conversational English, their confidence had improved enormously.

We would like to thank all our lovely partners, parents, students, teachers, and Mekong Organics team members who worked tirelessly to implement the mission of building partnerships for organic agriculture and rural development through the English training program for rural children. We appreciated the financial support of the Australian hosts and the Rotary Club of Hall in Canberra for their long-term support of this initiative.

The Rotary Club of Hall in Canberra partly funded the program through the Organic Farming project in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam (RAOAF).
