SOFRI and Mekong Organics have established a strategic partnership to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence in agriculture and horticulture. This collaboration supports researchers, extension officers, and farmers in the Mekong Delta by promoting AI-based solutions that enhance data collection, analysis, decision-making, and sustainable production practices.

The Southern Fruit Research Institute (SOFRI) today held a workshop titled “Application of Artificial Intelligence in Agricultural Research and Production”, highlighting the growing role of AI in modern agriculture and scientific innovation.

The event featured Dr Pham Huu Tai, an expert from Mekong Organics (Australia), who shared insights on how artificial intelligence—particularly the GPT 5.1 platform—is reshaping research workflows. Dr Tai demonstrated practical applications of AI in literature searches, data interpretation, scientific writing, and the development of research reports. He also presented case studies relevant to fruit crops, vegetables, and ornamental plants, aligning closely with SOFRI’s research priorities.

Speaking at the event, Dr Tai emphasised that while AI can significantly increase efficiency, it is a support tool rather than a replacement for field experiments or scientific data collection. He urged researchers to verify AI-generated outputs to ensure accuracy and scientific integrity.

The workshop received strong engagement from SOFRI’s early-career scientists, who expressed enthusiasm for integrating AI into their research. SOFRI leaders noted that applying AI tools will enhance research productivity, strengthen technology transfer, and support sustainable fruit production in southern Vietnam.
